Easbourne to Lodsworth

Trial walk commencing White Horse in Eastbourne to the Langham brewery in Lodsworth. Notes - walk deviated from path resulting in less than ideal walking environment. Route needs to be researched further. Of interest is the Royal Oak tree.

The Queen Elizabeth Oak on the Cowdray Estate near Midhurst and Easebourne in West Sussex is an ancient sessile oak estimated to be between 800 and 1,000 years old.

Legend says Queen Elizabeth I rested in the shade of the tree while hunting on the Cowdray estate on August 15, 1591.

The tree features a massive hollowed-out trunk with a girth measuring roughly 12.5 to 14 meters (41–46 ft).

This is not just a tree but is recognizsd as one of the Great British Trees and was shortlisted for the Woodland Trust’s Tree of the Year award!
