We did it! Our Swift Tower is being installed on Monday 19 October
Thanks to the generosity of local residents, businesses and grant funders, we have raised the £7,500 needed for a Swift Tower in Easebourne Park. It will be installed on Monday 19 October.
A Swift Tower is a tall pole topped with dozens of nest boxes, giving safe homes to several pairs of swifts. Swifts once nested in good numbers around Midhurst, Easebourne and Lodsworth, but they have lost their nest sites as old buildings are repaired or demolished – UK numbers have fallen by around 75%.
Swifts return to the UK in late April and May, so the tower will be ready for their arrival next spring. They can take a season or two to move into a new home – we will share news as soon as we spot our first residents.
